APPLICATION AND ELIGIBILITY

RETURNING THIS YEAR! Citizens who attend the entire 2019 session of Keystone Girls State are eligible to receive three credit hours through the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. More information will be sent to all students post-program, so make sure the email address provided for them is correct.

Interested in becoming a delegate for Keystone Girls State? If so, you must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  1. Limited to unmarried female students who have successfully completed their junior year; (11th grade) of high school and who have at least one more semester remaining before graduation.

  2. Must be a citizen of the United States of America.

  3. Former Girls State participants are not eligible to participate in a subsequent year’s American Legion Auxiliary Girls State.

  4. Participants shall be selected on the basis of leadership, character, scholarship, merit, loyalty, and service in her school and community.

  5. Girls State program is a drug and alcohol-free environment.

  6. Upon returning from Girls State, we ask that you, the participant, relate your experiences and

  7. knowledge gained to your school, community, and sponsors.

  8. The enrollment fee of $200.00 is paid by your sponsor. Repayment by the participant along with your parent or guardian(s) if the following occurs:

    1. It is determined any eligibility requirement has not been met once at the Girls State session.

    2. The participant breaks the rules of Girls State and is sent home. c. The participant fails to attend.

  9. Final acceptance is dependent on all paperwork being completed, turned in on time and eligibility requirements satisfied.

  10. Department Chair of Girls State may accept or reject any applicant.

As a reminder, all citizens must attend THE ENTIRE SESSION OF KEYSTONE GIRLS STATE!

The Citizen Packet

Before you start your amazing week at Keystone Girls State, you must read the Citizen Packet in full. Inside you will find information on our dress code, tips for packing, information on what to bring for our service project., and an apparel order form. This packet is meant to be used in conjunction with the Citizen Manual. 

The Parent Packet

Congratulations on your daughter's acceptance to Keystone Girls State! Before you send your child off for an exciting week at Keystone Girls State, we ask that you print this packet and bring the completed Medical and Travel Information with you to Registration. We can not register your child for the program unless this packet is complete. Inside you will also find information on how to arrive to campus, and where registration will take place.

Travel Information

While citizens are expected to provide their own travel to and from KGS, the Western Section of the American Legion Department of Pennsylvania does have a bus available for citizens attending both Keystone Girls State and Keystone Boys State. The Samsung Scholarship

Are you a descendant of a U.S. wartime veteran who served on active duty during WWI, WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Lebanon and Grenada, Panama, or the Persian Gulf War? Then you are eligible to apply to the $10,000 Samsung Scholarship! Each year, one citizen's application is chosen to compete against other Boys and Girls State representatives from across the country to compete for one of the $20,000 scholarships. 

You are eligible if you complete the Keystone Girls State program, are a descendant of a U.S. wartime veteran who served during one of the aforementioned times of conflict, and can provide proof of service for your family member. 

Please complete the scholarship application before June 18th and bring a hardcopy to registration.
